Custom TPE Extruded Gaskets for Industrial Applications

Mavis Plastic Profiles - Plastic Extrusion » TPE extruded gaskets

Guarnizioni-estruse

TPE extruded gaskets are an advanced engineering solution for industrial applications requiring reliable sealing, flexibility, durability and consistent production quality. Thanks to advanced plastic extrusion technology, Mavis manufactures custom extruded gaskets and flexible extruded profiles tailored to a wide range of industrial sectors.

Our flexible gaskets are manufactured from high-performance thermoplastic elastomers such as TPV, TPU, SEBS and SBS, carefully selected according to mechanical performance, operating temperature, UV exposure, elasticity and long-term durability.

The possibility of customizing profile geometry, Shore A hardness, colours and co-extrusion allows us to develop custom extruded gasket profiles that integrate perfectly into OEM production processes and demanding industrial applications.

Materials for TPE extruded gaskets

Our thermoplastic elastomer gaskets are manufactured using different TPE compounds, selected according to the final application, environmental conditions and technical performance required.

Unlike traditional vulcanized rubber manufacturers, Mavis specializes exclusively in thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), without using conventional vulcanized rubbers such as EPDM or NBR.

Main materials used

  • TPV (Thermoplastic Vulcanizates): excellent resistance to UV radiation, weathering, ageing and temperature fluctuations, combined with outstanding compression set performance.
  • TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane): outstanding mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, impact resistance and excellent performance in demanding industrial environments.
  • SEBS and SBS: highly flexible thermoplastic elastomers ideal for soft-touch sealing profiles, aesthetic finishing components and applications requiring excellent elasticity.
  • Special TPE compounds: customized formulations for low-temperature applications, food-contact requirements, low VOC emissions and outdoor environments.
TPE Material Main Properties Typical Applications
TPV Excellent UV, weather and temperature resistance with outstanding elastic recovery. Window and door systems, sheet metal edge protection, automotive components.
TPU Superior mechanical strength, abrasion resistance and impact resistance. Industrial machinery, conveyor systems, protective profiles and technical equipment.
SEBS / SBS Exceptional softness, flexibility and pleasant tactile properties. Soft sealing profiles, decorative edge trims, protective bumpers.
Low Temperature TPE Maintains flexibility and sealing performance below 0°C. Cold storage rooms, industrial refrigeration systems and refrigerated cabinets.

Manufacturing process for extruded gaskets

Co-extruded gaskets and flexible extruded profiles are manufactured through a continuous extrusion process that guarantees dimensional consistency, excellent profile uniformity and repeatable production quality.

The selected TPE compound is plasticized inside the extruder and forced through a precision die that defines the final cross-section. After cooling and calibration, each profile is cut to the required length or wound into coils depending on customer specifications.

Our production process can include:

  • Co-extrusion of rigid and flexible materials
  • Technical inserts and reinforcement elements
  • Custom surface finishes
  • RAL colour matching on request
  • Complex profile geometries designed according to customer drawings

Every TPE extruded gasket is engineered to provide excellent elastic memory, low compression set and long-lasting sealing performance, even under severe operating and environmental conditions.

Applications of industrial extruded gaskets

Window and door sealing systems

TPE extruded gaskets are widely used in PVC, aluminium and timber window and door systems to improve thermal insulation, acoustic insulation and air-water tightness. Carefully selected TPE compounds provide excellent resistance to UV radiation, humidity and temperature variations while ensuring long-term sealing performance.

Sheet metal edge protection

Extruded gaskets for sheet metal protect sharp metal edges, reduce vibration, improve operator safety and enhance the appearance of industrial components. Thanks to custom extrusion, profiles can be manufactured in virtually any cross-section to match the customer’s design requirements.

Industrial refrigeration

TPE compounds specifically developed for low-temperature applications maintain flexibility and sealing performance even below 0°C, improving the energy efficiency and service life of refrigerated cabinets, cold rooms and industrial refrigeration equipment.

Industrial machinery

Flexible extruded profiles are widely used in industrial machinery, conveyor systems, automation equipment and technical protection components thanks to their excellent abrasion resistance, mechanical strength and dimensional stability.

Advantages of TPE extruded gaskets

  • Continuous profiles without joints.
  • Excellent elastic recovery with low compression set.
  • Outstanding resistance to UV radiation, humidity and weathering.
  • High level of customization in profile geometry, Shore A hardness and colours.
  • Co-extrusion of flexible and rigid thermoplastic materials.
  • Recyclable thermoplastic material.
  • Reduced production waste.
  • Lightweight solutions that contribute to improved energy efficiency.

Within a sustainable manufacturing approach and according to the principles of the circular economy, thermoplastic elastomers offer a modern engineering solution because part of the production scrap can be recovered and reprocessed into new raw material.

Mavis designs and manufactures Made in Italy custom extruded gaskets for OEM customers requiring consistent quality, technical precision, production flexibility and long-term manufacturing reliability.

How to select the right custom extruded gasket

Selecting the most suitable custom extruded gasket requires careful evaluation of several engineering parameters:

  • Operating temperature range.
  • Indoor or outdoor application.
  • UV, ozone and chemical resistance requirements.
  • Required Shore A hardness.
  • Compression behaviour and elastic memory.
  • Compatibility with metal, plastic or glass components.
  • Applicable technical standards and certification requirements.

Our engineering team supports designers, OEM manufacturers and technical departments in developing customized TPE extruded gaskets starting from technical drawings, CAD files, existing samples or specific application requirements.

Standards and certifications

Our industrial extruded gaskets can be developed in compliance with:

  • REACH Regulation.
  • RoHS Directive.
  • EN 12365 for window and door sealing systems.
  • Food-contact compliant formulations upon request.
  • Phthalate-free formulations.

FAQ about extruded gaskets

What are extruded gaskets?

Extruded gaskets are continuous sealing profiles manufactured from thermoplastic materials through an extrusion process. They are designed to provide sealing, insulation, vibration damping and edge protection in industrial applications, window and door systems, machinery and technical equipment.

Which materials are used for extruded gaskets?

The most commonly used materials are TPV, TPU, SEBS and SBS. Each compound is selected according to the required elasticity, operating temperature, mechanical performance, UV resistance and environmental conditions.

What is the difference between extruded and moulded gaskets?

Extruded gaskets are manufactured through a continuous extrusion process, making them ideal for long profiles with constant cross-sections. Moulded gaskets, on the other hand, are produced using dedicated moulds to create complex three-dimensional shapes or closed-frame components.

Can extruded gaskets be customized?

Yes. Mavis manufactures custom extruded gaskets according to customer drawings or samples. Profile geometry, material, Shore A hardness, colour, co-extrusion, inserts and surface finishes can all be customized to meet specific application requirements.

Are TPE extruded gaskets recyclable?

Yes. Unlike traditional vulcanized rubber, TPE compounds are thermoplastic materials that allow production scrap to be recovered and reprocessed, supporting sustainable manufacturing and circular economy projects.
